Praa Sands & District Gardening Club
Meet on the First Monday of each month 2.00 – 4.00 pm. All welcome. For more information contact Tony Apple
(Chairman) : 01736 762763 The
Club held its AGM on Monday 6th November.
The present committee who gave reports on the year’s activities were
unanimously re-elected and thanked for their various efforts on behalf of club
members. The
list of speakers for next year was available to be viewed by all those present,
and this appears to be a most varied and interesting collection of talks. Our
Speaker for this meeting was Andrew Gunderson, a firm favourite with members,
particularly, may I say, with the ladies!!! He
talked about the history and process of Prairie Planting as demonstrated by the
lat Christopher Lloyd and others. Some
may prefer to call it meadow planting but it is fundamentally a method whereby
perennials and grasses are planted for combination in a naturalistic setting.
Andrew had prepared an informative handout for us and a comprehensive
list of plants for use in this approach to gardening. Next
month’s December meeting on the 4th will be our Christmas meeting.
John Mann will be our Speaker on the subject of Hellebores, and there
will be a special Christmas themed raffle as well as mince pies available with
your tea or coffee after the talk. All
members and guests are most welcome. A
card with full details of next year’s talks will also be available to paid up
members. The
Club will be holding its Christmas Dinner on Tuesday 12th December at
the Queen’s Arms, Breage, and have organised a coach trip around the Christmas
Lights, finishing at Mousehole, on Wednesday 20th December.
Cost for these events are £13.95 and £8 respectively, and anyone
wishing to join either party is asked to telephone Anna as soon
as possible to book as seats for both are limited. New members
and visitors are very welcome at the meetings which start at |
